Diamant lady electric motor conversion with coaster brake

Diamant ladies model gets converted with Tongsheng TSDZ2

The model is Beryll Sport which has 8-speed internal hub gear

The motor is 36 volts, 250 watts with retraction, coaster brake (it's a special version, look out when ordering, must be for coaster if you want fot brake..

Bought at https://enerprof.de/

The battery comes from Jose-Power, 36Volt and 12.5 Ah

The conversion is made by T. Starke. Thanks for the pictures, everything looks really nice!

As previously said, it uses Internal Gearing Hub, I think Shimano Nexus/Alfine, which holds up fine normally. And is also used for some Shimano Steps bikes.

The model looks a bit like Diamant Rubin Legere, but it has cassette and so on.. Hmm.

The Diamant Rubin Legere has a big 11-51 cassette in the rear! I guess it would suit a Tongsheng TSDZ2 nice.

Check out B. Balcanquall build. Looks nice and sturdy.

"Looked like this before I started. Then brake lines fitted between motor and BB." - B. Balcanquall

"Here's the prep I did, removed the front derailer and cable stops. Hydraulic lines pushed out of the way, no need to disconnect." - B. Balcanquall

That's a good thing about hydralic lines, they dont need tensions like a cable wire do. You can just put them aside.

Some bike models can be a bit tricky to convert. Check out this other Giant Escape 2 model which has a diffrent design from the Toughroad.

"Cannondale Trail 7. I removed the cable guide since he didn't need the front derailleur. After some wiggling, I was able to get it on without having to shave anything or take the cover off. I was not able to mount the anti-rotation bracket, but it seems the downtube conduit for the cables kinda creates its own anti-rotation bracket. Hopefully, that will suffice." - T. Okimoto

Kona Cinder Cone conversion with Tongsheng TSDZ2

More and more people like the TSDZ2..

D. Ridsdill has built this nice Kona Cinder Cone conversion using the TSDZ2 with a torque sensor.

He uses a 48v 17.5 ah Samsung battery.

"I also have a Bafang 1000w mid but this is in my opinion a better system.

Very pleased with it!" - D. Ridsdill

I also have a Bafang motor, a BBS02 but I much more prefer the ride of the Tongsheng motor, especially with the emmebrusa firmware. I hardly ever uses the Bafang motor any more.

"The motor is smoother, gear changes are better. Generally it behaves more like a normal bike. The Bafang is a lot more powerful but more like a moped and a lot heavier."This was my second Tongshen build and now I have been persuaded into building another 3 for family and close friends!" - D. Ridsdill

It has the original VLDC5 display, and uses no throttle.

Nice build of a Kona Cinder Cone! Thanks D. Ridshill for the info and photo!

Lifepo4 cells as E-bike battery

Using LiFePO4 38120 10ah cells in 12s pack

For those of us who don't like to solder batteries these seams like a good alternative when you wanna move away from Li-Ion batteries and go to safer LifePo4 cells.

Photos of nice DIY battery pack: Q. Maxwell
12S means max 43.8V (36V battery)

"I am using Headway LiFePO4 38120 10ah cells in 12s packs. They make a bit bigger heavier pack as energy density is lower than lithium ion but a very stable chemistry. A generic 12s LiFePO4 BMS is performing OK" - Q. Maxwell

If you want 48 volt you have to go to 16S pack.

TSDZ2 conversion on bike with more upright position

Nice stylized Marin Kentfield (ladies model)

A. Wong installed a new 50t Solid-e-bike chainring. (Bottom one) It is design to reduce the chainline offset by another 5mm comparing to the factory unit.

Nice Marin Kentfield conversion by A. Wong. Also photo by Mr. Wong.

New chainrings, Solid E-bike mounted on bike for better chainline.

Totally replace driveside as far as I can see.

Straighter chainline and bigger chainring on Tongsheng TSDZ2

Better chainline and bigger chainring on Tongsheng TSDZ2

A. Wong has replaced his selfbuilt chainring to a solid e-bike unit. Here he show the result, which looks really nice!

"1: replaced homemade 48tooth chainring with a 50tooth solid-e-bike unit.

Result: decrease chainline offset and reduction in friction.

Note: I mounted the ring on the inner side of the spider to further reduce the overall chainline offset.  I am super excited about the extra smoothness." - A. Wong

"The Solid chainring has a design call "narrow wide" one set of teeth is narrow and one set is wide. this will grip the chain on and keep it from falling off." A. Wong

Selfbuild vs ready bought, 48 teeth vs 50.

The result looks really good!

J. B. Fernandez is using Box Four groupset and a 42t chainring for his TSDZ2. The front chainring has a different design the bigger chainring above.

Blue gear worn out Tongsheng TSDZ2

TSDZ2: Grinding noise when adding power

Location of "blue gear", nylon

"Two weeks ago my tsdz2 motor started making a grinding noise whenever i would put power down so after doing some research i came to the conclusion it was the sprag clutch bearing so i replaced it , I went out for a ride but now the grinding noise was getting worse. So today i took out out the blue gear and at first it looked ok but then the middle bearing just fell out of the center of the blue gear and on inspection noticed the splines on the inside had worn away. I replaced the entire blue gear and re greased it up and now it works like a dream. I am only posting this if anyone else might have the same problem." - J. Cooper

-------------  ---------

Some thoughts about the blue gear on Tongsheng TSDZ2:

"But from experience they are very resilient unless you forget to change down at lights or something silly like that. Iv had mine 3 years and is as good as new still. The sprag bearing is it's acillies heel in my opinion, on my 3rd. Seem to get about a year (4000 miles and they literally fall apart). Again very cheap to fix with basic tools.

I'm on 48v running my motor at 864w so is very very hard on the motor and it just copes no worries at all." - P. J. Clack

"I’ve changed 2 in 500 miles. On both occasions I locked the rear wheel while at full power because someone rode in front of me. It is designed to save the gearbox/casings." B. S. Williams

Avoid turbo level to get it last longer

"+24500 Km, 20k on 10,4ah 36v first battery then rebuild 13ah 36v now. same motor and controller, third blue gear. 1 at 1600 km, 2 at 11000 km, 3 til now but starting to slip 1 teeth." - Alexandre Talocchi

"The first one I used (abused) only on turbo level. The second one I used with 36km/h limit and lasted for almost 10k km. This time I´m using 42 km/h limit and never turbo level."
- Alexandre Talocchi

Grease the blue gear.

"I tend to do mine approx. once a year (when I change my sprag one way bearing), or when I can hear the gears chartering on each other. The grease that comes fitted as standard isn't the best quality but would easily last 3-4 maybe 5 years before it totally hardens and becomes unusable. Use good quality stuff and it will outlast the motor." - P. J. Clack

"Use lithium as it doesn't tend to dry out and has good melting point. Do not use any grease with ep2 in the title. It contains pressure additives and will make your one-way roller bearings in the blue cog slip and is virtually impossible to clean up once it gets in. Normal grease will just squeeze out of the rollers if it gets in." - P. J. Clack

"Mobil Grease Ep3, Jos 20000 km and still my first bleu Gear. Regrease any 3000 km" - J. Vender

Mobil SHC 100

MOLYKOTE EM-50L Grease. Lubricating grease developed for plastic components

White Lithium Grease

Mobilgrease 28

"Only thing to watch for is that you aren't using grease with "ep" designation. This means it has pressure additives, which don't play well with oneway bearings such as what is used on the blue gear. The additives stop grease squishing out and the roller bearings can't engage. Found out the hard way myself after a rebuild. Even isopropyl alcohol couldn't shift it so had to buy a new gear again.

I have a big tub of Shimano grease and that's all I use now, ain't cheap but doesn't melt or go rock hard like cheap stuff." - P. J. Clack

Bike stand / Bike rack, some alternatives

 Bike Rack Stand

From the reviews:

"Hey all, this bike rack does the trick. I have two bikes, one trekking and another mountain bike. The rack easily fits the two and even though my mountain bike handles are very wide, the frame makes it so it fits facing forward. Also, I have it free standing (no nail in the wall) and I don't see this tipping at all. "

Price is $115.95

"Easy to set up and no drilling needed. Able to accommodate different bike types and sizes"

Nice looking Specialized Rockhopper Comp with TSDZ2 and also Trek Marlin 6

Specialized Rockhopper Comp
Advanced butted aluminium

They are two and a half years and almost 10000 km made with the motor. Mounted on an old and unwieldy front.
But never left on foot for now in all my laps in the plains, hills and mountains, with average height differences over 1500 m.
Greased maintenance every 4000km
Replaced Teflon gear with metal and fixed gear bearing gear wheel crown side.
Two crowns initially mounted coupled to the 34 and 52 spiders.
never had problems x the chain even if offset despite my weight of almost 100 kg and the pushing effort.
The assistance used is almost always Speed and the 14.5 battery never fully discharged in the mountains on a drop of 1500m. Battery at 25%.
I hope to continue like this.

This is a nice build of Trek Marlin 6 with a 73 mm bottom bracket. Also Tongsheng TSDZ2. I think this is a 2016 or 2017 model. Color oragne, called firebrand. Cables goes with the top tube which is nice for converting. External cable routing makes it a nice fit.

I believe the brakes are hydralic (Tekro).
